Check out our FAQ's below for more information.
Heating, ventilation and cooling are all important features in homes, offices, commercial and industrial premises. However, ensuring that the equipment delivers as promised it is necessary to understand a little more about the technology.
Read these HVAC FAQ’s to get a better understanding of these systems in general:
1. Do I Need To Service My HVAC System?
Yes. An HVAC system consists of moving parts and consumables such as filters and gas that need to be cleaned, maintained and replaced from time-to-time to ensure that they are functioning properly. It is recommended to have the system serviced at least every 3 to 6 months. Read the manufacturer’s. operating manual to find out exactly when, how and by whom service and maintenance needs to be performed. A well maintained HVAC system will last longer and provide better heating, cooling and/or ventilation.
2. What Size HVAC System Is Best For My Home Or Business Premises?
The calculation that is used to determine the ideal size HVAC system for a specific premises, residential, commercial or industrial, is complex and takes into account a number of different factors. The calculation is however critical to getting the most energy efficient system which provides for the heating, cooling and ventilation requirements of a specific premises. It is recommended to ask an HVAC expert to assist in calculating the most suitable size HVAC system.
3. How Do I Know When My HVAC Is The Wrong Size?
If the system is not providing sufficient heating or cooling, it is probably not the right size. Ideally, the thermostat should be set between 70 and 80 degrees F depending on the season and cool the air between 18 and 20 degrees F. If you find that you are increasing or lowering the thermostat setting, the HVAC size is probably not suitable for the space.
4. What Is Efficiency And Why Is It Important?
Basically, efficiency is the calculation of the amount of energy that is used to optimally heat, cool or ventilate a specific area or space. While this calculation is crucial to save energy and therefore lower the cost of running an HVAC system, it is also important to ensure that the system provides effective cooling, ventilation and heating.
5. How Do I Know I Need To Replace My HVAC System?
When a HVAC system is no longer providing sufficient heating and cooling, this is a sign that it probably needs to be replaced. However, it is recommended to first call an HVAC technician to service the system and make any necessary repairs. A replacement part or repairs could be sufficient to keep the system running for longer. However, if the cost of maintenance continues to grow, it is probably time to replace the system. Keep in mind that older systems that are no longer functioning optimally are using more energy at a greater cost. Ask the HVAC technician if they advise replacement of an existing system.
